Cliffside Royalettes

So what do you do when your Youth Club's equipment cupboard is locked and nobody's got the key? "Let's get up and march around the room" came the cry... and from that day on baton twirling came to Great Yarmouth.

Cliffside Community Association Marching Girls were formed in 1979 with their first public performance of a marching routine with wooden batons at the Raft Race in 1980.

After a few years and several name changes later, we became Cliffside Royalettes. The name came about due to the royal blue colour of our uniforms and Cliffside as a reminder of the Community Association that helped with our humble beginnings.

We became members of the British  Baton Twirling Association in March 1984.

Our first group National Championship came in 1990, first individual National Champion in 1991 and British Open Champion in 1998.

Athletes from the club have also competed for England in individual and group sections, achieving medal positions in both these events.

The countries they have competed in include Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Canada and Ireland.

Our successes are not just restricted to the competition floor. The club has also produced four BBTSA qualified teachers and three judges.

Our club trainer Clare is also a qualified World Baton Twirling judge and BBTSA clinician.

We always welcome new members from age 5 to adult, complete beginners to experienced twirlers. Club training is on a Tuesday night in Gorleston.
